– Parent traveled while sister is confined to bed because of illness
Residents of Agona Asafo which is in the Agona East Municipal Assembly had one of the shocks of their lives when a native of the town committed suicide due to his aunt’s inability to help him further his education.
The boy named Isaac Arhin is a 15year old JHS graduate who completed the Agona Asafo M/A JHS this year. The deceased known popularly as Yaw is said to have taken his life as a result of his Aunt whom he stays with and the family’s decision for him to learn a skill or trade instead rather than going to SHS due to cost involved and the lack of practical and technical know-how in the Ghanaian schools.
Also, they could not support him in school because of lack of money.
Reporting to Golden Star FM during an interview, the deceased sister said “My Junior brother had aggregate 20 in the BECE and gained admission to one SHS at Kwahu Tafo in the Eastern Region but our Aunt whom she stays with and the rest of the family couldn’t support him to SHS.
I told him to wait for his mum to return but he refused to say by the time his mum comes back it will be too late as admission would have been closed by then. I am bedridden and unable to help him.”
She continued by saying “In the morning he told me he’s hungry and wants something to eat, to which I told him to wait a bit small so that I can cook him some food. But I don’t understand why he would commit suicide and end his life.
The matter has been reported to the Police”
In the age of Akuffo Addo and his government free SHS, why would a person commit suicide? Hmmm, may his poor soul rest in perfect peace.
