Rapper E.L has slammed Gasmilla (we must confess he did not mention his name) for passionately claiming ownership of Azonto since Sarkodie started the ‘bring back’ Azonto campaign.
The campaign is aimed at reviving Azonto- a music and dance genre that originates from Ghana.
Gasmilla in a previous interview with Sammy Flex had said he felt Sarkodie should have given him a call as courtesy demands because he’s the true originator of Azonto.
He had said: “I think we should all basically know our worth at this point. If Sarkodie feels too big in his shoes to know who Gasmilla’s contribution to Azonto is, I can’t also just wake up and send him a record.”
He added:” I respect him enough to call his name Sark, she should also respect me enough to know I go fit to link Gasmilla up.”
Other artists like Stay Jay have all claimed they are the real kings of Azonto so the rest should stay back. The back and forth banter between artists will probably compel Sarkodie to hold on with the whole project.
Making his opinion about the foregoing, rapper E.L said no artist should claim ownership of the genre because it’s the property of all Ghanaians.
In a separate interview on Hitz FM, EL had this to say:
“Azonto has never been dead. It’s just been dormant. Why would I want to lay claim to a music genre? Why? Okay. if I lay claim to it, then what do I want? Kings have crowns. Kings have domains. If I own Azonto, what is my property?
